Transport Manager Courses
Transport Manager Refresher Course (CILT Accredited)
The CILT (Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport) Transport Managers Refresher course is a targeted program designed for existing transport managers. Its purpose is to update their knowledge on the latest industry regulations, legal requirements, and best practices. While the initial CPC qualification is a "lifetime award," the Office of the Traffic Commissioner highly recommends completing a refresher every 5 years to ensure continued compliance.
Refresher Course Syllabus
Unlike the full CPC qualification, which is extensive, the refresher course is condensed and focuses on key areas where changes are frequent or where a lapse in knowledge could lead to compliance issues. The syllabus typically covers:
Driver Hours and Working Time Directive:Recent changes and clarification on regulations.
Drivers' Records and Tachograph Use: Proper record-keeping and avoiding common infringements.
Operator Licensing: A review of the undertakings and conditions of an operator's license.
Vehicle Maintenance and Roadworthiness: Updated guidance on planned preventative maintenance, vehicle files, and the DVSA's Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness.
Operator Compliance Risk Score (OCRS): How the system works and what can impact a company's score.
Road Safety and Legal Updates: New legislation, traffic law, and enforcement procedures.
Public Inquiries: What to expect and how to prepare for a public inquiry with the Traffic Commissioner.
The refresher course is a two-day program, with a knowledge check at the end to confirm understanding. It is a form of continuous professional development (CPD) and does not require a formal exam like the initial CPC.
Remote Delivery
Refresher courses are well-suited for remote delivery, as they are shorter and focus on discussion and knowledge sharing rather than deep, foundational learning. Remote courses are delivered through a virtual classroom format, using Microsoft Teams. Key features of remote delivery include:
Live, tutor-led sessions: Instructors lead interactive sessions, allowing for real-time questions and discussions. This ensures participants can engage with the material and clarify any new information.
Digital materials: All course documents, handbooks, and presentation slides are provided digitally, making them easy to access and reference.
Flexibility:Remote courses eliminate the need for travel, which is a major benefit for busy professionals, and allow them to learn from their office or home.
Knowledge checks: Any assessments are usually conducted online, often as a multiple-choice quiz, at the end of the course to verify that the participant has absorbed the key updates.
This delivery method makes it simple for transport managers to stay compliant and up-to-date without disrupting their operational duties.
